Only a fifth of e-waste is ever recycled. It’s an untapped source of precious minerals.
According to the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Forum, 56 million tonnes of e-waste are produced annually in the world and it’s the fastest-growing waste stream in the world. E-waste is full of key minerals and according to A New Circular Vision for Electronics only a fifth of the produced waste is recycled. Some of these minerals are running out altogether while others are becoming more and more expensive and at the same time many consumers are unsure how to recycle the e-waste or they don’t know the importance its recycling has for the environment.
Through BeWEEN training material, the importance of recycling and reusing is highlighted. The fact that the natural resources are limited and we need to make better use of them in order to build a sustainable future for the next generations to come is at the heart of BeWEEN’s activities. BeWEEN’s training material aims to raise teachers’ awareness around protecting the environment and they, in their turn, can teach their students the impact everyday actions have to the environment and encourage them to adopt pro-environmental behaviors.
